How accurate is a breathalyzer test?
How accurate is a breathalyzer test? A lot of folks think, well, it prints out a sheet of paper and it says, “I’m a point 0.08 or 0.15” or whatever the number is. At the end of the day, those tests are designed to measure what’s called deep lung air. They’re designed to also extrapolate or essentially compute what the machine estimates your blood alcohol would be based upon the air in your lungs. The problem with that is, is the machine is designed on the notion that your body is a closed system. That’s not true.
The point is your body will never be a closed system. It’s always changing and evolving because it’s living and breathing. The numbers that they use are the mathematical equation they use to determine the estimate for your blood alcohol test based on your breath varies from person to person. It also varies within the same person from day to day so it’s nothing more than approximation.
It’s not fair to try to convict people based upon an approximation by a computer that is based on a flawed system that treats everybody the same. It’s important to find somebody who is well-versed, who has expertise and has researched and spent time utilizing and experimenting with these breath alcohol devices in order to successfully defend your breath alcohol DUI case.
